The program Engineers in Action was launched as one of MYTILINEOS Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives with an international scope and has since evolved into a Graduate Program that naturally feeds into the company’s talent pool.
This program is implemented both in the context of the company's commitment to support the G.E.F.Y.R.A program (Greek Enterprises For Youth Reinforcement Acceleration) that combines the European Program for apprenticeship EU Talent and the European Pact for Youth, based on the key pillars of professional development/experience, practical training and skills acquisition, and in the context of its contribution to Sustainable Development Goals (Goals 4 & 8) set by the UN, for 2030, for Quality Education, Decent Work & Economic growth.
The program Engineers in Action was established in February 2014 and since then four cycles have been implemented, with the last one having been completed in December 2020.
The four program cycles that have been completed so far were extremely successful as all participating engineers found employment in less than three months, while a large percentage of them joined MYTILINEOS, in various roles and departments. In fact, 82% of the engineers that took part in the last program are now employed by MYTILINEOS four Business Units and Central Functions, while the remaining participants were able to leverage their experience for successful career placement.
Going beyond this excellent result and wishing to adopt a scientific approach in order to fully map all the advantages that such actions offer for supporting the young generations, the company analyzed the program’s Social Value using the internationally recognized Social Return on Investment (SROI) methodology. The result of this analysis was particularly encouraging, as it was shown that every €1 invested in the program Engineers in Action generated the equivalent of €4.24 of Social Value. The term Social Value is used to denote the translation into economic terms of the changes brought about by the program Engineers in Action to the life of young participating engineers. For the young Engineers who participated in the four cycles of the program, the most important changes were the following, as indicated by engineers themselves:
The next day of the program
The year-long program, which has already expanded across the central functions of MYTILINEOS and all Business Units, will take place every six months in order to provide a larger number of engineers with the opportunity to participate.
The ultimate vision of the Engineers in Action program is to become an Engineering Hub that develops the best talent and sets the standard for career development for graduate engineers.
