Sometra Company was founded in 1939 and became the largest zinc and lead metallurgy in NE Europe. The most important changes came after 1965 when it obtained full metallurgic equipment. In 1988, it produced in total 35,000 tons of metals annually.
In November 1998, Mytilineos Holdings SA acquired 57% of Sometra Copsa Mica, which reached 88% in the first quarter of 2000 through a share capital increase.
Due to the international crisis in the market for metals, and due to the discontinuation of the operation of the world's only mine that produced the raw material needed by SOMETRA, the company's production activities are today temporarily suspended.
