Aluminium of Greece SA was established in 1960. It is the most modern vertical plant in the production and supply of alumina and aluminium in Europe. With an annual production capacity reaching 775,000 tons of alumina, 165,000 tons of primary-cast aluminium-electrolysis and 170,000 tons of end-products aluminium, "Aluminium of Greece SA" is the largest producer of alumina and aluminium in Southeastern Europe. The company facilities, covering a total area of 7,035,700 m2 are in Agios Nikolaos, on the Distomon coast of Viotia.
Company facilities, located in Agios Nikolaos, Viotia, are situated in an advantageous position since they are geographically close to important bauxite deposits in Viotia and Fokida, having convenient access to the sea, and discreetly integrating with the surrounding environment.
ALUMINUM OF GREECE SA, being a modern aluminum industry, focuses its philosophy on its human resources skills and competencies, as well as on the working conditions constant development and improvement, as they constitute inextricable part and a determining factor in the business successful outcome. For instance, the exceptional technical performance (i.e. electrical consumption per ton of produced aluminium, etc.) on world level are a result of this approach.
Today, the total alumina production of the only production facility in Greece, Aluminum of Greece, in Aspra Spitia Voiotias, exceeds the amount of 775.000 tonnes annually.
Health and Safety have been a top priority for AoG for many decades, with the company gaining important European and international distinctions in this area. Indicative examples of these distinctions are those awarded by the European Aluminium Association (EAA) in 2001 and 2002 for the best Health & Safety results of all European aluminium plants, and in 2003 for the best Safety results of all European alumina plants. In 2004, AoG was ranked 1st between all aluminium plants with 1 to 3 million work hours worldwide, according to the results published by the International Aluminium Institute (IAI). In recent years the company's management has been increasing the emphasis placed on the active involvement of all employees, in order to achieve the company's target of "Zero Accidents".
AoG applies an Occupational Health and Safety Management System in accordance with the OHSAS 18001 standard, certified by the Hellenic Organisation for Standardisation (ELOT).
