MYTILINEOS HOLDINGS S.A. is one of Greece’s leading industrial Groups, with activities in the sectors of EPC Projects, Metallurgy & Mining and Energy.
Between 1991 and 1994, through a series of mergers and acquisitions, all the activities of subsidiaries were transferred to the holding Company, In 1995, MYTILINEOS HOLDINGS S.A. was listed on the Athens Exchange and its share is today a constituent of the FTSE 25 Large Capitalisation index. In the last years the company has posted significant increases of its turnover and profits, and its activities have contributed substantially to the creation of infrastructures in the country.
METKA S.A. is the construction branch of MYTILINEOS Group and a globally competitive player in the construction of large-scale energy projects. Established in 1962, the company is listed on the Athens Exchange since 1973. Today, METKA is the leading EPC (Engineering-Procurement-Construction) contractor for energy projects, undertaking the implementation of turn-key projects, from design and procurement through to construction and completion. The company specialises in the construction of power plants (combined cycle, conventional thermal and hydro) and achieves an unprecedented penetration in developing markets abroad, with projects under way simultaneously in the markets of Europe, Turkey, the Middle East, Asia and N. Africa. METKA competes on an equal footing against the sector’s global giants and has been established as one of the strongest EPC contractors in Europe and beyond, as well as one of the leading Greek exporting companies.
The acquisition of “ALUMINIUM OF GREECE” in early 2005 laid the foundations for a new era for MYTILINEOS HOLDINGS S.A, as it boosted the Group’s already significant commercial presence in the Metallurgy sector by allowing it to also expand to industrial production. Today, ALUMINIUM OF GREECE is the largest vertically integrated aluminium and alumina producer in the EU and one of the most robustly growing industrial businesses in crisis-stricken Greece. Together with DELPHI-DISTOMON S.A., the international business activity of ALUMINIUM OF GREECE is driving the growth of the national economy and the country’s periphery.
The Group's establishment in the Energy sector was a major challenge and goal, with efforts in this area culminating in 2007 in the launch of the Group’s association with Spain-based Endesa for the creation of Endesa Hellas. This placed MYTILINEOS HOLDINGS S.A. among the leading private players in the Energy sector and ensured its dynamic growth in the future. In 2010, the Group acquired Endesa’s 50.01% stake in Endesa Hellas, renaming the company to PROTEGRIA. A wholly-owned subsidiary of MYTILINEOS Group, PROTERGIA brings under the same roof all of the Group’s energy assets and activities, and is the largest independent electricity producer in Greece. During the five-year period from 2006 to 2011, the Group completed the first phase of its €1 billion investment plan in the Energy Sector, and has today in operation a total of 1200 MW of installed capacity from thermal plants and an another 54 MW from RES plants, while 52MW (wind farms) are under construction and 700 MW under development. An investment plan that, in stark contrast to the barren Greek investment landscape, modernises the country’s infrastructures, opens up prospects and creates added value.
The Group's carefully planned business growth in this Sector is also demonstrated once again by the establishment in 2010 of M&M Gas Co., together with MOTOR OIL HELLAS S.A. M&M Gas is active in the supply and trade of natural gas, and aims to secure the coverage of the needs in natural gas of the Groups under competitive terms, as well as to sell natural gas to third parties.
The dynamic business growth of MYTILINEOS Group is inextricably linked to the principles of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainable Development. For us, Sustainable Development means to strive for business excellence while remaining committed to our vision, with full respect for society, the environment, our people and our shareholders. The company's sustainability policy relies on the harmonious coexistence of its operations with the needs of the local communities where these are located. In this context, MYTILINEOS HOLDINGS S.A. is supporting actively major cultural and educational initiatives, as well as actions for the protection of the environment.
